Sending Photos That Help Us Choose Materials

What to capture in a photo so we can recommend the right substrate and finish.

What to photograph

  • The container or surface the label or sticker goes on — front and side angles.
  • The conditions it will face (refrigerated shelf, outdoor sun, dishwasher, hand-wash).
  • A close-up of any existing label or branding that you want to match.
  • A photo that shows the size (with a ruler or coin in the frame if possible).

What we look for in the photo

  • Surface type (glass, plastic, metal, paper, fabric) and texture.
  • Curvature — how tight the curve is.
  • Lighting conditions — outdoor UV, indoor spotlights, refrigeration condensation.
  • The size of the application area.

Photos help us recommend the right substrate and finish without guessing.

Photograph the real conditions

Use natural or neutral light when possible and avoid filters. Take one wider image that shows the whole product, then a close view of the application area. If the surface is curved or textured, add a side angle so the profile is visible.

For moisture or outdoor use, show where the item is stored rather than describing it only as “waterproof” or “outdoor.” Condensation in a refrigerator, occasional splashes and long exposure to sun create different material questions. If rubbing, cleaning or flexing is expected, mention how often it happens.

Add measurements and context

  • Place a ruler beside the usable area or write the dimensions in the message.
  • Identify the surface material if you know it.
  • Photograph seams, mould lines, sharp curves and textured areas.
  • Show the existing label after use if it lifted, cracked, faded or rubbed.
  • Include the appearance you want: opaque, transparent, matte, gloss, metallic or raised.

Photos narrow the options, but unfamiliar surfaces or demanding conditions may still need a sample on the real item. Keep one unlabelled container available when fit or adhesion is important.
