The five details
- Label width × label height — the size of one finished label.
- Repeat length — the distance from the start of one label to the next.
- Quantity — how many labels total, and how many per roll if that matters.
- Core size — 76mm, 44mm and 38mm are common references; confirm against the applicator or hand-use method.
- Inside or outside wind — which way the labels unwind off the roll.
Why these matter
These details affect production setup and how the labels run on your application line. Send them together with the artwork to avoid unnecessary back-and-forth.
Confirm the application method
For hand application, roll direction may be a preference. For a label applicator, it is a machine requirement. Share the machine diagram, an existing roll or a photo showing how the label feeds. Also state whether the leading edge is the top, bottom, left or right side of the artwork.
The core size and maximum roll diameter are different measurements. The core is the inner tube; the outside diameter is the full finished roll. A machine may accept one core but still have a limit on how large the completed roll can be.
Put the specification in one place
- Finished label width × height.
- Shape and corner style.
- Gap between labels, when the applicator requires it.
- Core size and maximum outside diameter.
- Inside or outside wind, plus artwork orientation.
- Total quantity and preferred quantity per roll.
- Container photo and application method.
A simple marked photo is often clearer than a long description. If an existing roll already runs correctly, photograph its core, unwind direction and label orientation as a reference.
